Work in Progress

May 31, 2007 | Uncategorized

I’ve been quite busy between school, tests, clinicals, and revisions. I’m quite happy with the progress of the revision and the quality of my work, even though I know it will always need improvement. It is going well. I’m trying to work on it for a few hours each night, and hope to have it completed and off to agents and publishers within a few weeks. Once, I finish the revision, I’ll print it, and visually search for errors and read it. I’m really funny about seeing my work on paper. I need to look at it printed out, it’s the best way I can check my work. Once I have completed the visual check, then I’ll send it out.

Generally, I’m pretty fast at visually checking it. I’ve always been a very fast reader. Thank God! In the mean time, I’ll keep adding new and interesting things to the site and my myspace page for everyone.  I’m half way done with the revision. I chose a more challenging route to write this book. It was done over a year ago, sent out to publishers and agents and accepted for publishing, then it was decieded to change the book into third person point of view. I had originally written it in first person point of view. Which is basically talking as if you were personally doing something( e.g.”I”).  This has been a challenege and a good learning experience.  I hope everyone loves it when finally is out “into the world of print”. I love it, after all, its mine, my mind, my creative vision, and the first in a series. I have unlimited ideas for this….

Revisions

May 23, 2007 | Uncategorized

Revisions are going well. I’ve got 10,000 words to cut and so far have cut quite a few. I’m racing to get this done becasue I’ve had a lot of inquires. Right now, the script is 480 pgaes, so cuts are necessary!

Last night, I was able to complete about 35 pages of revisions. I’m sad to say I cut some scenes, but they arent deleted, just saved for future use. Ill be working on more later.

Worries

May 16, 2007 | Uncategorized

My mom had a heart attack and tommorrow she’s having surgery, unless during the night it becomes a STAT issue. I have begged her to quit smoking, its so bad on her heart, but she ignores me and my sister. So, today, I was angry and layed it on the line. They brought up the issue of doing a bypass and she said a nasty “NO”. So, after I talked to the physician, I talked to her. I asked her if she wanted to see her grandchildren grow up. I asked her if she wanted to see me as a published writer. Sometimes, family can be stubborn. Mine sure is.

Now, about writing, Ive been working on the rewrite and which I find more difficult than the first draft. Laurell K. Hamilton on her website www.laurellkhamilton.org wrote something I think is great.

“A first draft is a not a book, it’s a baby book. The rewrite is where you raise the baby to adulthood.”

I love her statement becasue its so accurate. Writers create the book, using their fertile imagination and when the first draft is done, we dig in, fill out the details and mistakes, and finish it. Sometimes this takes 5 or 6 times. Argh. But you have a wonderful book at the end. Something you created. Something which is truly yours.

Stressful Day

May 15, 2007 | Uncategorized

Today was a bit stressful in school, plus I found out my mother in in the hospital (out of state) for a possible heart attack. I know all the facts yet, buts she’s had at least 3 major heart attacks and STILL has not quit smoking.  This isnt good. I’m afraid I’ll get that call one day, which no child ever wants to hear. I answered that call for both my grandfathers, great uncle, nephew, and Dad (why do all the men have to die first?? And NO! It’s not becasue women drive them crazy). I hate that call….. it’s one we all will hear one day…..but pray we never do. I hope the next few days don’t have that call for me. Thank God my brother in law was a paramedic so he knows the medical terms since I’m not there to interpert to the family.

You may ask what I’m doing in nursing right now, we have a split rotation, Psych, Pediatrics, and labor and delivery. ARGH! So much to remember, but I enjoy the content, especially psych…I know those theories inside and out. Behavorism, Skinner, Pavlov’s dog and conditioning, Freud and his id, ego, super ego–sexual identity, Bowen, Piaget, Erickson’s stages of psychosocial dveleopment…..see what a masters degree gets you…..theories. I have to admit I love theories becasue no one can prove it right or wrong, and that’s why I write fantasy/paranormal ficton. In my world, I can make and do what I want.

**SPOILER** Watch excaliber, the fairy world gave a woman control of excaliber, and she’ll beat any man and kick his butt, especially with help from her two loyal Druid’s, the Tuatha De Dannan Queen Danu, and Gabriel, the archangel…..(HINT) very soon in a future book.

Hi Everyone! It’s taking me awhile to learn the hang of this website, but Karen, the designer did a terrific job!!!! I thank her very much. She captured the image I wanted, after all, its supernatural, with ghost hunters, and nasty things that go bump in the night! Now I just need to get all the books to you!
