Worries

My mom had a heart attack and tommorrow she’s having surgery, unless during the night it becomes a STAT issue. I have begged her to quit smoking, its so bad on her heart, but she ignores me and my sister. So, today, I was angry and layed it on the line. They brought up the issue of doing a bypass and she said a nasty “NO”. So, after I talked to the physician, I talked to her. I asked her if she wanted to see her grandchildren grow up. I asked her if she wanted to see me as a published writer. Sometimes, family can be stubborn. Mine sure is.
Now, about writing, Ive been working on the rewrite and which I find more difficult than the first draft. Laurell K. Hamilton on her website www.laurellkhamilton.org wrote something I think is great.
“A first draft is a not a book, it’s a baby book. The rewrite is where you raise the baby to adulthood.”
I love her statement becasue its so accurate. Writers create the book, using their fertile imagination and when the first draft is done, we dig in, fill out the details and mistakes, and finish it. Sometimes this takes 5 or 6 times. Argh. But you have a wonderful book at the end. Something you created. Something which is truly yours.
Slainte!
